July '24 - Compatriots and friends of Henry Leavenworth, Delaware Crossing, Monticello and Jesse Leavenworth (DAR) joined together in fellowship.
Under a warm July evening, we watched the KC Monarchs defeat the Lake Country Dockhounds in a thrilling 8-7 victory that was decided in the 10th inning. After the visitors tied up the game in the top of the 9th with a grand slam homerun, the home team went down in order to send the game into extra innings. Returning the "favor", KC retired the visitors in the top of the 10th and then connected with a base hit single to drive home the winning run in the bottom of the 10th.
To kick off the gametime festivities, five jumpers parachuted into the stadium and the Monarchs defense took up their positions in the field.
Showing some classic Americana during a classic American game, our Kansas Society Color Guard performed the opening game flag ceremony (see pictures on this page) and received a warm reception from the crowd!
