Throughout the Constitutional Convention George Washington presided from a chair carved with the sun half visible over the horizon.
At the closing of the convention, Benjamin Franklin commented that he had often looked at the image “without being able to tell whether it was rising or setting: But now at length I have the happiness to know that it is a rising and not a setting sun.”
If the founding fathers visited us, rather than ponder the ascent of a celestial body, they could ask each Son of the American Revolution, "Are you a rising or a setting son?"
